Consultative Services
Consultative assistance is provided to employees through on-site visits, telephone support, publications, educational outreach, mediation and referral.
ADA/Request for Reasonable Accommodations
It is the policy of Howard University to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants and HU/HUH faculty and staff with disabilities as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). An individual is required to submit an accommodation request form and supporting documentation from his/her medical provider to the Office for Equal Opportunity for review and appropriate determination.
Discrimination Complaints
An employee should be directed to The Office for Equal Employment Opportunity if he/she has experienced discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, veteran status, disability, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibilities, political affiliation, educational matriculation, or retaliation. An investigation of the complaint will be conducted in accordance with Howard University's policies.
Religious Accommodation Requests
In accordance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Howard University has an obligation to provide reasonable accommodation of faculty and staff religious observances, practices, and/or beliefs provided it does not create an undue hardship on the conduct of the University/Hospital business practices or comprise safety or security.
Written request for a religious accommodation may be submitted to the Office for Equal Employment Opportunity.
External EEO Responses
When an employee files a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the D.C. Department of Human Rights and Local Business Development, or any other agency that enforces employment discrimination laws, the Office of General Counsel with support from the Office for Equal Employment Opportunity will respond to the complaint on behalf of the University.
