Meet our CHRO

Larry A. Callahan is the Associate Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). In this role, he provides strategic leadership in the planning and implementation of quality-based, mission-focused human resources programs for all faculty and staff of the University and Hospital. Throughout his career, Callahan has developed and led innovative programs encompassing employee relations, reward and recognition, talent acquisition and candidate assessment, compensation & benefits, employee health, employee compliance, employee and patient satisfaction and employee engagement/ workforce commitment.  These programs led to increases in employee retention, reductions in voluntary turnover, increases in employee engagement, consistent application of employee counseling and an overall improved workforce.

Callahan received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State University and his master’s degree from Marshall University. “Everyday I come in with a focus on continuous improvement for both the team and me. I want the team to develop the proper goals and measures that drive improvements for the staff and faculty we serve, the processes we collaboratively implement and to leverage technology for Howard University and the Hospital. That’s how we will create positive, sustainable change.”
