Leadership Excellence Program (LEP)
We recognize that cultivating high performance begins with our leaders at the highest levels. HU Leaders must create work environments where staff can thrive and do their best work to advance HU's goals and objectives. The Leadership Excellence Program (LEP) will focus on building leaders' capability to create, inspire, motivate, and sustain high-performing teams. LEP consists of monthly three-hour sessions from September through April. These sessions will include a mix of engaging guest speakers and interactive activities designed to strengthen leadership relationships and skills. In addition to these sessions, each cohort member will participate in peer group exercises and supplemental learning.
Please note: Participation in this program is by invitation only and offered exclusively by the Office of Human Resources.
A senior leader at Howard University is a key executive responsible for shaping and executing the university's strategic vision. They manage other managers or report directly to a cabinet member, overseeing multiple teams or cross-functional initiatives. Senior leaders drive long-term goals through strategic decision-making, influence, and systems thinking, impacting the university’s overall direction and operations.
Management Excellence Program (MEP)
The Management Excellence Program (MEP) will provide valuable training to increase manager effectiveness and departmental productivity. Managers will learn skills essential for upskilling and developing their teams professionally. The program consists of monthly three-hour sessions from September through April. In addition to these sessions, each cohort member will participate in peer group exercises and supplemental learning.
A people manager at Howard University acts as a key liaison between senior leadership and the individuals they directly lead. They oversee daily operations and ensure effective team execution. Their primary focus is on fostering the development of their direct reports by providing coaching, guidance, and support, while also delegating tasks to empower their team members.
HU Learning Hours
HU Learning Hours is a dynamic, hybrid professional development experience designed to support ongoing growth for ALL Howard University employees. The program includes three distinct components to provide multiple ways to learn, connect, and grow: Virtual Learning Sessions, In-Person Skills Labs, and Asynchronous Training
HU Leadership Hub
The HU Leadership is a quarterly meeting designed to meet the following objectives: (1) enhance alignment, collaboration, and connection among Howard University leaders; (2) increase the enterprise leadership team’s awareness, understanding, and support for university initiatives; and (3) strengthen leadership capability to build strong team cultures and performance.
