Flexible Spending Accounts
Health Care Account
Health care accounts allow you to pay for certain eligible expenses using pre-tax dollars. Health Care FSA accounts are established on a “use it or lose it” basis, meaning if you do not use the money you have contributed each year, your remaining funds will be forfeited. You can contribute up to $2,850 to your healthcare FSA through pre-tax payroll deductions. You must submit claims to Cigna for reimbursement of eligible expenses online, by mail, or fax.
The Health Care FSA can be used to reimburse eligible expenses that are not covered under your medical, dental, or vision coverage. For 2022, you can set aside up to $2,850 and expenses are reimbursed as you receive the services.
Important Note: If you enroll in the CDHP (Consumer Driven Health Plan) for 2022 and you still have funds in your Health Care FSA from 2021 that you are using through the March 31, 2022 grace period, you will not be able to contribute any funds to your HSA until April 1, 2022.
Eligible expenses are set by the IRS and include:
- Deductibles (for medical, dental and vision)
- Copayments
- Chiropractor costs, and more
- Coinsurance
- Prescriptions
For a full list of eligible expenses, see IRS publication 502.
Dependent Care Account
If you have dependents, you may have to pay a caregiver to look after them while you work or attend school. Dependent care accounts allow you to set aside tax-free money and use it to pay daycare expenses. Eligible dependents can be children under age 13 or adults that are elderly or disabled and rely on you for support. You can contribute up to $5,000 to your dependent care FSA through payroll deduction. You must submit claims to Discovery Benefits for reimbursement of eligible expenses online, by mail, or fax.
Examples of eligible dependent care expenses include:
- Child or adult daycare center fees
- Before-school or afterschool care (not including tuition expenses)
- In-home care costs
- Summer or holiday day camp
For a full list of eligible expenses, see IRS Publication 969.
