Eligibility & Referrals

Eligibility Requirements

The Howard University Workplace Coaching Program is available to full-time staff employees who have a clear developmental workplace goal, are choosing to participate voluntarily, are prepared to engage in six coaching sessions and follow-through activities, and whose needs can be appropriately addressed through coaching rather than another formal University process.

Who Can Refer

Employees may request coaching themselves, or they may be referred by a manager, senior leader, HR Business Partner, or Organizational Effectiveness & Learning (OEL). All referrals require the employee's awareness and interest, as participation is always voluntary.

Readiness Considerations

Workplace coaching is designed for employees who have a clear developmental goal, are open to reflection and feedback, and are willing to take action between sessions. Participants should be prepared to actively engage in all six coaching sessions.

Situations Where Coaching May Not Be the Right Resource

Coaching is not a substitute for performance management, employee relations matters, investigations, mediation, legal guidance, accommodations, leave processes, clinical care, or emergency support. When another resource is a better fit, participants may be referred to the appropriate University service.
